Our Founders

Vincent van Gogh Foundation

The Vincent van Gogh Foundation has owned the core collection of the Van Gogh Museum since 1962. It also contributes to various projects and exhibitions within the museum. For example, the Vincent van Gogh Foundation has contributed to the English translation of the biography of Jo Van Gogh-Bonger and the digital platform Van Gogh Worldwide. The exhibition Choosing Vincent (10 February - 10 April 2023) was made possible in part with the Foundation's support.

Founding partner: Sompo Japan Insurance Inc.

Founded in 1888, Japan’s largest indemnity insurance firm expanded operations into Europe in 1995. Support from Sompo Japan contributed to the realisation of our new Entrance Hall (designed by Kisho Kurokawa Architect & Associates) in September 2015.

Ministry of Education, Culture and Science

The Van Gogh Museum receives an annual subsidy from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

Main Partners

VriendenLoterij

The VriendenLoterij is the Dutch lottery focused on preserving cultural heritage and boosting well-being. In 2021, the BankGiro Loterij merged with the VriendenLoterij, which meant that the new VriendenLoterij was able to donate nearly € 125 million to good causes over the previous year.

The Van Gogh Museum also receives an annual donation from the VriendenLoterij, which helps us to expand our collection. In recent years, donations have enabled us to enrich the collection with the paintings Clovis Sleeping by Paul Gauguin, Peasant Burning Weeds by Vincent van Gogh, and with works by artists including Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro and Edvard Munch.

With their VriendenLoterij VIP Card, participants are able to see what they support with their own eyes. The special pass grants holders free entrance to the Van Gogh Museum.

ASML

ASML has been the main partner of the Van Gogh Museum since 2019. The focus of this collaboration is on technology and Van Gogh’s search for colour and light. The collaboration also focuses on making educational activities possible that allow students to experience how important science and technology are for art and culture.

Christophe Fouquet, ASML President and Chief Executive Officer:

‘Van Gogh started his innovative search for light and colour in Brabant, which is where ASML also started its journey. ASML shares Vincent's innovative attitude and fascination with light, and feels closely connected with his heritage. We are constantly looking for ways to ensure that our communities benefit from our technological innovation. At ASML, we aim to contribute to solving societal challenges, including preserving cultural heritage for future generations.

This partnership with the Van Gogh Museum gives us the opportunity to use science to discover which techniques and materials Van Gogh used, and to explore which innovative technologies that we use in our industry can be utilised to help preserve these important works of art.’

Partners

Adyen

Adyen is the Van Gogh Museum’s payment partner. With its global platform for payments and data, Adyen supports the museum in providing a secure, fast and user-friendly payment experience for Dutch and international visitors, from online ticket sales to purchases in the Museum Shop.

The partnership reflects a shared focus on international accessibility, innovation and the continual improvement of the visitor experience, both online and on-site.

DHL

As Partner in Logistics, DHL Express facilitates worldwide delivery of purchases made in the Van Gogh Museum Shop and webstore in a more sustainable way.

The Van Gogh Museum receives a DHL GoGreen Climate Neutral certificate every year. This certificate provides insight into the emissions from the transportation of the shipments, and how these emissions are offset in climate protection projects.

From 2022 to 2025 the DHL x Van Gogh Museum Heart for Art educational programme was developed especially for children with no or limited access to art education. The programme reached more than 60,000 children across Europe, the United States and South America.

In 2026, DHL supports the Van Gogh Museum’s educational programme Van Gogh Goes to School, introducing pupils at Dutch schools in designated neighbourhoods to the world of Vincent van Gogh.

Heineken

Heineken and the Van Gogh Museum joined forces in 2015 to develop the special Sunflower Collection bottles. Heineken partnered up with the museum to support Amsterdam’s unique cultural heritage.

Both the museum and Heineken appeal to a dynamical and diverse target group. Through this collaboration Heineken links its brand and company to a strong museum brand.

Hyundai

Since 2016, Hyundai has been a partner of the Van Gogh Museum to introduce a wider audience to the beauty of art and design. The partnership has led to the Korean translation of the museum website, map, and multimedia tour.

Hyundai has also made two electric cars available to the museum, decorated in details of Van Gogh’s world-famous masterpieces: Sunflowers and Almond Blossom. This gives Hyundai the opportunity to draw attention to its electric models in an inspiring way.

Van Doorne

In a world that is constantly changing, the judicial system is a valuable compass. As are art and culture. They all show us the way and give us a fresh perspective on ourselves, each other, and the world around us.

As a Van Gogh Museum partner, Van Doorne supports Vincent on Friday: a pioneering event that offers young adult visitors a new way of experiencing the museum, through music, workshops, talks and more. We work closely together to inspire and engage a new generation with the power of art and culture, and to build towards a society that is stronger, both now and in the future.

Samsung

The Van Gogh Museum showcases the work and life story of Vincent van Gogh, a pioneer of his time who had the courage to constantly reinvent himself. Samsung shares the same commitment to continuous innovation.

From this shared value, Samsung and the Van Gogh Museum are joining forces to enhance the visitor experience at the museum with technology. From 10 June 2025, visitors will be able to enjoy the renewed audio tour of the permanent collection using a Samsung Galaxy S25+.
