In Vincent’s footsteps

The drawing workshop series transports you to a remarkable place: Vincent van Gogh’s studio in the village of Nuenen where he lived from 1883 to 1885. In the final workshop, you’ll look outside through Vincent’s eyes, taking in the Brabant landscape that so greatly inspired him.

The series introduces three different subjects that Vincent drew in this period: peasants’ hands, their faces, and the (rural) landscape. Following the three workshops, you’ll be able to draw these subjects in Vincent’s style, from your own perspective.

What do you need?

The workshop materials for each workshop:

  • HB or B pencil (if there are no markings on your pencil, it’s usually HB);
  • 4B pencil;
  • pencil sharpener;
  • drawing paper.

In addition:

  • for episode 1: a small bowl or another object to hold in your hand;
  • for episode 3: a black felt tip or biro, and a mount to look through (or you can also use your hands to make one).
