For The Potato Eaters, Vincent van Gogh used the colours of an unpeeled, 'really dusty potato'. Many considered it a dark and strange painting.

Vincent later went on to use many more colours in his paintings. He also considered painting a new version of The Potato Eaters, but that never happened.
