Clothing collection Daily Paper x Van Gogh Museum: Bodil shows the Van Jorbla t-shirt

Daily Paper and the Van Gogh Museum see this partnership as a chance to explore how fashion and art can bring people from different backgrounds together and learn from each other in the process.

This second clothing line zooms in on the artist himself. By drawing parallels between the life and career of one of the Netherlands’ most celebrated artists on the one hand and those of modern young makers on the other, Daily Paper and the Van Gogh Museum hope to engage and inspire a new generation.

The autumn/winter 2020 collection was available in the Van Gogh Museum webshop, at dailypaperclothing.com, in Daily Paper stores, the Van Gogh Museum shop and other selected retailers worldwide. The collection is now sold out.

First collaboration

The first Daily Paper x Van Gogh Museum collaboration explored design in Van Gogh’s works and offered an accessible introduction to collectable wearable art.

The clothing collection was presented during an official launch event at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on 14 February 2020. Each custom-designed garment incorporated pieces of Van Gogh's masterpieces such as Irises (1890) and Self-Portrait as a Painter (1887-1888). Several lesser-known works and quotes by Van Gogh also played a significant role in the first clothing line.

Daily Paper & Van Gogh Museum partnership

The story of Vincent van Gogh immediately appealed to the founders of Daily Paper: just like Van Gogh, Jefferson Osei, Hussein Suleiman and Abderrahmane Trabsini chose a more difficult path, and one where success was not guaranteed.

The trio launched the Daily Paper clothing brand without any training or prior knowledge of the industry, driven purely by intrinsic motivation, just like Vincent at the start of his artistic career. And just like Van Gogh, the men from Daily Paper taught themselves all they needed to know – in this case, about the world of fashion. Against all odds, both Van Gogh and Daily Paper rose to success.

This partnership between the Van Gogh Museum and Daily Paper ties in with Van Gogh Connects, a four-year research programme powered by Fonds 21 examining how the museum can be and stay relevant for young people with bicultural backgrounds.

Daily Paper has its own deep roots in this youth culture, making it a valuable partner for the Van Gogh Museum.
